Purbeck International Chamber Music Festival is an exciting artistic development curated by Natalie Clein and her fellow musician friends. The Festival takes place every year at the end of summer in the beautiful surroundings of Purbeck in Dorset in historic locations, churches, unusual sites and schools.
Our artistic director invites exceptional musicians, actors and lecturers from both home and abroad to make music with her in the intimate venues which the extraordinary Isle of Purbeck offers. The Festival has been growing since 2009 when we started under the umbrella of the Purbeck Art Weeks. This evolved into an annual event which brings together international stars and an enthusiastic audience.
Festival’s mission is also to nurture young talents. Every year, events for young musicians, families and children’s concerts are planned with the aim of reaching out into the broader community.
One of the Festival aims is to maintain contact with Purbeck schools through either workshops or masterclasses. This has captured the imagination of local supporters who have given generously to fund the events we have held each year so far.
One of the aims of PICMF is to contribute in some way to the musical life of our Purbeck schools. Much has been publicised in the media about the cuts in education which have affected the arts in particular. Many schools are now preoccupied with the core curriculum and the arts are suffering. Our aim is to reach the parts others perhaps cannot reach so that children in our community have an opportunity to see and hear great musicians perform. We would like to help fund workshops and performances in our local schools to encourage and inspire pupils.
Firstly, we are most grateful to the Family of Charles Good for their ongoing support of and interest in this wonderful little Festival in our beautiful corner of Dorset. Our Founding Patron is Charles Good and his encouragement and support from the festival’s inception and Natalie’s vision have together created a sumptuous feast of music and musicians for a most appreciative and ever-growing audience.
We are extremely pleased to have Tarisio on board, the leading auction house of fine instruments and bows, based in New York and London. We are delighted to be supported by The Worshipful Company of Grocers, a grant awarding body to UK registered charities. The Fidelio Charitable Trust and Swanage Town Council are also supporting our activities. The Isle of Purbeck Arts Club and The Purbeck Quire Fund are both helping to fund the Family and Children’s Concerts. We are very grateful to The Steel Charitable Trust for their generous grant.
We are also thankful to local organisations and businesses who are supporting us generously.
